With the incredible technological advancements seen over the last twenty years, people are becoming increasingly dependent on technology. People seem to be busier and have more fast-paced lifestyles, and more people are finding technology-heavy jobs that require little face-to-face interaction, in Texas and elsewhere. That being said, it is no surprise that more and more people are turning to online dating to meet others. While some more old fashioned people are skeptical about online dating, a recent study shows that couples who meet online are happier and less likely to divorce than those who met the traditional way.
The study surveyed almost 20,000 people who married between 2005 and 2012. Of these people, 35 percent met online in e-mail, chat rooms, social media or other online venues. Although more married people still meet offline, they have differing levels of satisfaction based on where they met as well such as a couple who met in school have a higher marital satisfaction rate than those who met at a bar.
Research now suggests that one out of every three married couples met online. These people are also more satisfied in their marriages and less likely to divorce. While eight percent of marriages for those who met offline ended in divorce, only six percent of marriages initiated online did.
These increased levels of satisfaction could be in part to the findings of another study which discovered people to be more honest about what they want in a relationship when interacting online. Those looking to meet someone online are faced with a larger group of people who are actually seeking a relationship, and many people using online dating sites are looking for a long-term relationship. Whatever the reason, people in Texas looking for a satisfying relationship with a less likely divorce rate could consider online dating.
