Texas adoption festival aims to find families for children

Welcoming a new child into the family is a joyous experience. For many this means the arrival of a newborn. Months of anticipation and preparation lead up to the happy day. Adoption is very much the same. It takes time to get through all the paperwork and the proof that you are a suitable parent. All the while you look forward to the day you become mom or dad to your new child.

In Texas, over 4,000 children were said to be in protective custody in August 2014. Some may have lost their parents, many have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Sadly, it can be years before a child is found a permanent home. There are simply so many children in need of adoption and all too few families applying.

President Barack Obama has announced an investment into programs designed to tackle the issue and speed up the process of moving children out of foster care and into a forever home. As part of the initiative, November 2014 was declared National Adoption Month, while the 22nd of the month was named National Adoption Day.

An adoption festival was also held in Texas, allowing children to meet prospective parents while also enjoying a fun day out. One little boy whose parents brought him to the festival as they searched for an addition to their family expressed his enthusiasm for the idea. Soon to be 8 years old, he wants a younger brother to teach and play with.

Although it is heartbreaking to consider the trials many of these children have endured, it is comforting to know that steps are being taken to help these children reach loving homes. Every child deserves the care and protection of a family, so if you are considering welcoming another child into your household, adoption may be the path for you.

An attorney may be able to assist you with the process and advise you on the steps you need to take to prove your suitability as a parent. The process can take time and effort and there are many matters that will need to be considered and dealt with along the way. However, it is more than worth it to extend your family and bring happiness into a child’s life.
