Do you need visitation rights for your grandchildren?
In many families, grandparents play a critical role in the upbringing of the children. After a divorce, a parent's incarceration, a parent's overseas deployment or other reasons, Grandma and Grandpa may be called on to serve as Mom or Dad. In Texas, lawmakers have recognized this fact, and have afforded grandparents a number of rights. In certain situations, a family law attorney can be absolutely vital in protecting these rights. For years, grandparents across San Antonio and beyond have turned to The Law Office of Lisa A. Vance, P.C. Our attorneys' understanding of grandparents' rights, as well as our skill in and out of the courtroom, can provide significant benefits.
Under certain circumstances, grandparents can request a managing conservatorship, or custody of their grandchildren. For instance, when the child has been living with the grandparents for six months or longer, grandparents can ask the court for a managing conservatorship.

CUSTODY AND VISTATION RIGHTS FOR GRANDPARENTS IN TEXAS
Under Texas law, courts can grant grandparents visitation, under the following circumstances:
- The parents are divorced
- The child has been abused or neglected by his or her parents
- The parent is dead, found incompetent, or in prison or jail
- The parent-child relationship has been terminated by court order or the child has lived with the grandparents for at least six months
Any time a grandparent is requesting custody or visitation of a grandchild, it is likely that relations between the grandparent and parent are, at best, strained. As a result, these disputes are often resolved in the courtroom. At our law firm, we understand that there are times when a disagreement between family members must be resolved in the courtroom. You can have confidence in our ability to effectively argue your case before a judge. At the same time, if there is a way for your case to be resolved without resorting to litigation, we will find it. Whatever our lawyers do in your case, it will be with your grandchild's best interests in mind.
